The history of the productALTHEA GIBSON
ALTHEA GIBSON, THE FIRST AFRICAN-AMERICAN TENNIS CHAMPION!
Born in 1927, it was on the clay courts of Paris, on the 26th of May 1956, that Althea Gibson became the first African-American athlete to triumph in a Major tournament. In 1950s America, deeply marked by racial segregation, this title was the culmination of a long struggle against racism and prejudice, her toughest opponents on the courts.
Althea is a symbol of the fight for civil rights, as she couldn't sleep in a hotel where whites slept, nor drink from a whites-only fountain during tournaments.
Gibson won 11 Majors, 5 of them in singles. Above all, she paved the way for many African-American champions, such as Arthur Ashe.
Made in Europe
Our production is located in France and Portugal.
We worked hard to develop high quality products: the design, the cut, the stitch, the colours... Attached to authenticity that lays deep in the brand DNA, we indicate the place where our products are manufactured, France or Europe.
