Paris-Brest, Paris-Roubaix, the finish on the Place de l’Étoile (1975), bikes riding through Paris every day... Paris and cycling have a long history. On April 5, 1818, a crowd gathers in Luxembourg to see the rst bicycle, a draisine reaching 15 km/h. In 1867, Paris hosts the first ever cycling race, with 150 riders sprinting through the streets of the capital from Champs-Élysées to Versailles. Already, popular cycling represents the transformation of Paris into a green city, addressing urban challenges of the past, present, and future.
