The history of the productCLUB DES SPORTS ALPINS 1905
IT WAS A DOCTOR WHO BROUGHT WINTER SPORTS TO CHAMONIX!
Born in 1869, Michel Payot was a doctor in the Chamonix valley. In the 1890s, he discovered a new way of getting around in the snow that had come from Norway: skis. After a few lessons with Norwegian instructors, he decided to use them as a means of transport to consult his patients.
It was only later that he came to see skis as a hobby. In 1905, he founded the Club des Sports Alpins. Under his impulse, alpine skiing and ski jumping were born in the valley. Thanks to this doctor, Chamonix became the historic nerve center of winter sports in France and the world, hosting the first edition of the world's biggest winter sports event in 1924.
