“Head in the handlebars” or “Tete dans le guidon” in French, this expression naturally comes from the world of cycling.

Evoking the image of a cyclist in full effort, bent over his bike, who has little time to think of anything else. Figuratively speaking, it describes a person overwhelmed by his or her activities, unable to take a step back from the situation in which he or she finds him or herself. And yet, sports are undoubtedly one of the healthiest ways to take a step back. The body needs to be revitalized.

Moving around allows you to take the pressure off and get your head out of the water. By forcing the line, by pressing on the pedals, by putting on the gears, could we go so far as to say that cycling avoids having your “tete dans le guidon”?
