ITALY'S FIRST STEPS
The first rugby teams in Italy appeared at the start of the 20th century. The first championship was launched in 1929, a year later the Italian Rugby Federation was created.
In the 1930s, following a Franco-British misunderstanding, rugby became more independant from the Anglo-Saxons and France looked more towards continental Europe. In 1934, The amateur International Rugby Federation was founded from the 10 European federations including France, Germany, Spain and Italy. The first European tournament,, FIRA was organised in Rome on 22nd April 1935.
Sports d’Epoque brings back to life these first historic international steps by the Italian rugby team.
