Captain of the English team in 1914, he was considered the best centre in the world! Darling of the English, His performance on the firld seemed to defy the laws of nature. We read about him that : «Ronald Poulton-Palmer seems to always pierce the defense in a straight line and it’s the defenders who swerve out of the way».

When war broke out, his sense of patriotic duty pushed him to join up. In 1915, his regiment the Royal Berkshire was sent to Ploegsteert in Belgium. The night of the 4th of May, Poulton-Palmer was supervising reinforcement work on the trenches and was killed by a sniper. This genius of a player was stopped short of his destiny and died a hero at the age of 25.
