THE WORLD CUP FOOTBALL'S FIRST EVER FINAL
The first ever Football World Cup was in Uruguay in 1930.
Unsuprisingly Uruguay and Argentina are in the final. The 2 countries have already met and are big sporting rivals. The match is going to be intense! The 30th July 1930 the stadium is full, 70 000 spectators searched beforehand to avoid fire arms in the stadium. The organizers fear trouble. The Belgian referee demands protection and requests a boat to be ready an hour after the match in case he has to leave the country quickly!
Before the kick-off at 15:30, he already had to solve an argument : Both teams wanted to play with their own football. John Langenus walked on the pitch with a ball under each arm, the toss will decide; the Argentine ball was used for the first half and the Uruguan ball for the second! In the "Centenario" stadium, newly built for the competition and for the 100 years of independance, Uruguay beat Argentina 4-2.
